Making the world of construction a safer place

The GSE Group is working towards making the world a safer place by remaining committed to its Clients and Contractors and ensuring that “Good Health and Safety is Good Business”. In line with this effort, GSE initiated and sponsored the first networking event for the International Specialist Group, a specialist body of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)

Michel Gambassi, GSE Quality and Safety Director and Jonathan Meikle, GSE Health and Safety Manager sponsored the ISG networking event to play a part in increasing Health and Safety awareness within the industry. The event, held at Ullesthorpe Court Hotel in the Midlands on 20th November 2007, attracted delegates from around the world and from various industries. Health and Safety is a subject that touches all industries and for which events such as these are vital to allow discussions and insight from experts in their areas of speciality.

Major accidents are still common place in many countries and enforcing authorities are more often reactive than they are proactive. Part of the challenge for GSE and more generally for Health and Safety specialists from international organisations, is the implementation of best working practices worldwide. Legal requirements vary but best working practices remain almost the same from one country to the next. Organisations may encounter situations where rules and procedures need to be interpreted correctly, and this event supported the exchange of information from specialists, who have gained best practice through experience. This was well carried during the workshops where the diversity of the delegates allowed for very interesting comments and feedback.

Speakers at the event covered a variety of subjects ranging from the “Code du travail and the French legal system” with Sylvain Combet (Recall Ltd), “Driving at work abroad” with Phillip Morton (AON Global Risk Consulting), Dr Gordan Sellers discussed “Managing contractors” while Jonathan Meikle made a presentation on “What’s happening in occupational safety and Health in Croatia.”
